If you think the West Coast is the best coast, then regular visits to Los Angeles are a must. One Fated Knight founder Jen Yau took her New York state of mind down to the City of Angels last week and discovered that while you spend an awful lot of time in your car, LA has a lot more to offer than Rodeo Drive, celebrity sightings and the juicing movement.
Where to Stay: Santa Monica
"Being by the beach in California and getting up in the morning with a short walk to the sand is the perfect way to spend a weekend in LA. The 3rd Street promenade is full of shops, restaurants, and a movie theatre. The Georgian Hotel
is perfect. Total art deco cool."
Where to Shop: Melrose
"It's such a classic shopping strip that you just can't go wrong. It's steps away from Robertson Boulevard and Opening Ceremony, plus there's plenty of cool little shops where you can get the softest LA-made t-shirts for $20."
Where to Eat: Abbot Kinney
"This neighbourhood is right next to Venice Beach and is built into all these old small houses. The architecture is cool and the restaurants are great. Gjelina
is a must on that strip."
Where to Drink: Hollywood
"I love a good speak easy, but thought New York City had the best. So when my friends took me to La Descarga
I was definitely surprised. It's guest-list only and when you arrive, the hostess opens the wardrobe, pushes the coats apart and there's a curtain behind it that leads to a full bar with a Flamenco band."
